Feature Friday: Kathy Belge, Solo Women RV
On finding connections on the open road while traveling solo.
Welcome to the new column, Feature Friday, where every week, I’ll introduce you to a Roadpreneur who is building a business that lets them RV more often (maybe even full-time). Through these stories, you’ll see sparks of inspiration that can be woven into your own journey and go behind the scenes of other people’s businesses that are successfully growing from the road.
Kathy Belge and I have crossed paths in the digital space for years. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when we got to meet up and have a cup of coffee together on a beautiful rainy day in Tucson. These are the types of connections I love to make. The kind that allow you to meet up in the most unexpected places and have deeper conversations than surface level talk of things like the weather or strength of coffee that you often see at traditional networking events.
Finding these types of connections wherever you go is the beauty of the RV lifestyle, and it’s what Kathy does best. So well, in fact, that she has built a business around traveling alone and with others, sparking new connections at the campsite, and continuing to inspire others to do the same through jher podcast, Solo Women RV. Meet, Kathy.
What is your name and what do you do?
Kathy Belge. Host of the Solo Women RV podcast and blog.
How do you seek adventure on the open road?
I travel in a 2000 Chinook Concourse with my adventure kitty, Tucker.Â
What inspired you to start this business?
As a solo woman RVer, I noticed there were a lot of YouTube channels for solo women, but not many podcasts. As a podcast listener, I wanted to create something I would want to listen to.Â
What do you like most about your business?
Connecting with people! I’m solo, but I’m also an extrovert. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories and offering them a platform to share their stories.Â
What’s going through your audience’s mind when they come to you for help?
My audience is either looking for inspiration and confidence to get started in solo travel. Or, they’re already traveling and looking to connect with other kindred spirits.
How have you designed your business to run while you roam?
Good question. Still working on this.Â
What challenges have you faced by running a business from the road?
Just finding the time! Making myself sit still in one place long enough to be able to concentrate and get work done.Â
If you had to start over again, what would you do differently?Â
Probably put more effort into marketing my podcast from the get-go. This is still something I struggle with.Â
What’s the biggest compliment you’ve ever received?
I have to share a card with you that I received from a listener with $100 tucked inside telling me how much my podcast meant to her and what a valuable service I provide for women on the road. This is why I do this work! It was so nice to have it validated in such a sweet way.Â
What are you getting excited about right now?
Growing my show. That’s my #1 goal for 2024, to grow my listenership.Â
Where can we connect with you?
